Set on a plantation in Georgia in 1857, a group of the slave labourers are plotting on making the 600 mile journey to the north to become freemen.

As well as the slaves trying to make their break to freedom, it also follows a bounty hunter who catches any runaway slaves by befriending them and a human rights chap who after failing in trying to garner attention in abolishing slavery is approached to help on the underground ground railway.

Ignoring the modern soundtrack that takes you out of the period it’s in, it’s a good watch.



Outsiders (WGN America)


Outsiders (WGN America) – Starts 26th January – Renewed

The Farrells, a reclusive clan of hillbillies living in the hills of Appalachia, are put under threat of eviction when the suits from a coal company target where they live due to the massive coal reserves in them there hills.

The sheriff in the town at the base of the hills does his best to tell the company that its in their best interest to not not go after it due to the Farrells being more than a little fighty, but the suits ignore the warnings and go ahead with their plan.

The clan itself are in the middle of a transition of leadership where the old mother was gonna hand over the ropes to her eldest son, which hits the rails after a returning member of the family translates the eviction notice to her eading the son to do some off the book tormenting of the town.

It’s a decent start.


Outlaw Country (WGN America)


Outlaw Country (WGN America) – Starts 24th Feb

Reality show which follows the two ex-convict Monk brothers, who are first on the suspect list for any crime that occurs in  Buckner, Missouri. Also followed in the show are another two brothers, the Cooks, who work for the police are desperate to arrest the Monk boys, and seem to spend all their time surveilling them.

It’s like a less entertaining Amish Mafia.


Wrestling With Death (WGN America)


Wrestling With Death (WGN America) – Starts 13th Jan

Combining the unlikely bedfellows of embalming and amateur wrestling. Wrestling With Death follows the Latham family, funeral home directors by day, promoters and combatants of the Mid-Southern Wrestling League by night.

Highlight of the wrestling action has to either come from the mousetrap bout or hearing the shocked outburst of a kid in the crowd exclaim “It’s a boy!” when a man in drag has his wig removed.

Easily falls into the guilty pleasure viewing bracket.
